Dr. Muhammad Zahid Bilal

PhD Communication Studies



Dr. Muhammad Zahid Bilal is an academician, broadcast expert and media researcher. He has over 15 years of experience in teaching Mass Communication at PhD, MPhil and BS level. He has been associated with University of the Punjab (PU), University of Gujrat (UOG) and Express News Television. He served at Centre for Media & Communication studies (CMCS), UOG as an assistant professor (2008-2019) and set up a state of the art FM radio station and Television Studio as a project coordinator. He also worked as a coordinator of faculty exchange program between UOG and Gaylord College of Journalism & Mass Communication, University of Oklahoma, USA (2013-2017) and visited Gaylord College twice for 6 months to get training in broadcasting and communication research. He has also got training of broadcasting from BBC and Internews. He has also been working as a programs manager of PU-FM 104.6 Radio and visiting faculty member at Institute of Communication Studies (ICS), PU (2004-2008). Under the ICS’ leadership initiative, he launched FM Radio service for the rehabilitation of people of Muzaffarabad after earthquake in 2005. These service were recognized by the international community and ICS awarded with UN award. His area of research is political communication. He completed his PhD in Communication Studies form University of the Punjab, exploring the “Effects of Political News Consumption and Discussion on Political Behaviour during Election Campaign 2013 Pakistan”. He published in several national and international journals. He also has presented papers at international conferences held in Florida State University, USA and University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, funded by Higher Education Commission (HEC). He has also been supervising the theses, documentaries, short films and features. He is executive member of Association of Media & Communication Academic Professionals (AMCAP). Presently, he is working as Head of the Department of Communication Studies at University of OKara.
